From the ALL-star Bestselling author Willow Rose

Scott Kingston is afraid of monsters. He thinks they’re lurking outside his bedroom window at night when his mother tucks him in. He asks his mother to keep the light on to scare the monsters away. But that light is exactly what lures the kidnapper to his window and the next morning, Scott Kingston is gone.

Twenty-eight years later, Vernon Johnson is released from jail after spending the biggest part of his life on death row, convicted of having kidnapped and killed Scott Kingston. As so many times before, he has appealed his case, but this time, the judge decides to let him go. A witness has finally told the truth, and there is no longer sufficient evidence to keep him in jail.

But shortly after Vernon Johnson is released and has returned to his childhood town, another child disappears, and soon all eyes are on him again.

Jack Ryder is getting ready to build the house of his dreams while hoping that Shannon won’t end up in jail for the murder her ex-husband committed. She is expecting their child and the pregnancy, along with the worrying, takes a toll on the both of them, especially when a dark secret is revealed about the lot where they are preparing to build their house.

The House that Jack Built An edge of your seat serial killer thriller Jack Ryder Book 3 edition by Willow Rose Literature Fiction eBooks

Early in the story, Jack Ryder and his colleague Ron drive to another city to arrest two female serial killers. Jack kicks in the door of the third floor hotel room and enters in time to see a female near the balcony. He commands her to stop, but she turns her back on him so Jack intentionally shoots her in the shoulder. The woman falls to her death. Detective Jack Ryder drives home, then goes into the office the next day to write a report on the shooting.

There are no repercussions to shooting an unarmed suspect in the back. No investigation, no paid suspension, no public outcry. Jack has ignored a primary rule on when to shoot (in this case, there was no imminent jeopardy), and should be in hot water. Unfortunately, this is one of many errors in the book as far as the police and the criminal justice system are concerned. These types of glaring mistakes in a series where the main character is a detective are inexcusable.

The conclusion is one long explanation by one of the characters, a very boring ending rather than any number of options Ms. Rose could have conjured. The plot seemed contrived, at times stretching the boundaries of incredulity well past the breaking point (having Jack's son's name, when reduced to numbers corresponding to the alphabet, revealing a phone number that is used to track the kidnappers, for instance). The writing is okay, though some of the conversations seem a little rough and not natural. I may have considered another star, but sandwich these with the procedural errors and you have an extremely unsatisfactory novel.

While I applaud Ms. Rose's literary success and recognize the many hours of labor she has dedicated to her books, this lack of attention to details ruined my first experience reading a Jack Ryder novel.

If you choose to suspend disbelief and ignore the constant clashes with reality, you may enjoy this book. If you desire to read something that accurately reflects everyday life, you will want to pass on this offering.

The House that Jack Built An edge of your seat serial killer thriller Jack Ryder Book 3 edition by Willow Rose Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I read this book in two days, would have finished it in one but I did have to get some sleep and stop to eat. I love a good suspenseful book and this was by far "one of the very best"!! Hope to read more from this author real soon.
'The House that Jack Built' was another edge of my seat, gripping, thriller ride with a ton of twists and turns. This series has kept me glued to the pages since book one and has yet to let go. The characters are such an array of personalities. Jack was definitely pushed in this book. The storyline was intense. Shannon is trying to hold on, and I believe she's stronger than she thinks. I look forward to reading more. A must add to your tbr list.
This book irritated me to no end. Very simplistic -- what detective would act like such an idiot? I lived in that area for years. You cannot zip from Titusville to Cocoa on a a bicycle and there's no public transportation from Titusville to Cocoa Beach. Locals don't bat an eyelash over a tropicl storm, much less evacuate! I wonder if the author has even been to this part of Florida.
So far I have read two of the books in this series, and I love them! I don't want to put them down, I can't wait to get the next one so I can keep reading! I really have enjoyed all of Willow Rose's books I've read!
I wish that those who presume to write books would at least write at a level above 5th grade. The story crawled along until a last minute rush near the end. It was not helped by the clumsy switches from present to past. I could say more, but I'll just say that this book is not worth your time.
I can't get enough of these books they have everything you could want to keep you reading. Jack is a great character can't stop reading about him. Want a series you can't put down this is one great job Willow Rose
Willow Rose writes a gruesome story with finesse. She stops just short of turning your stomach. Actually, most of the really horrible stuff is left to your imagination because she leads you to it and implies the scene. Her books are truly horror stories. I liked it though. If you are prepared for that then this is a good read.
